Prepared for energy storage

Freber in Drammen has recently focused on energy storage. This has become even more interesting now that their partner Nanotech Energy has launched lithium-ion batteries that don't catch fire.

The focus on energy storage started when Jan Erik Hennum joined Freber ten years ago. With him on board, Freber added significant battery expertise, both in battery technology and the production of battery solutions.

Custom solutions

The company has always focused on customised solutions while also bringing in agencies and partners that fit this model. Now, they have products and agencies that mostly fit into an energy storage strategy, from cables, installation, and solar panels.

Next year, they will see the results of several projects they are involved in, including a collaboration with a construction contractor. "It's only a matter of time before there is a requirement for electrification in this industry," said Roar Lindseth, CEO of Freber. "There are already municipalities in Norway that require electrification as a replacement for diesel generators, for example."

To create a product

In the above mentioned project, the goal is to create battery packs that supply electric machines on a construction site. "It's still in the early stages for this industry, but we believe it could become mainstream," Lindseth added.

Today, Freber produce smaller battery packs, but in the future they want to offer even more complete packages, with service and more customization.

Nanotechnology

"There has been great interest in Nanotech Energy's new graphene batteries," said Stein Erik Bjørnerud at Freber. "We expect to have access to mass-produced battery cells in the second quarter of next year. Then we will do tests with potential customers. Partner Vili Vé Group will help set up a testing program."
