Unveiling: 35 000 Hours of Passion and Solutions
The dedicated student team Nordlys has invested over 35,000 working hours into developing a solar-powered race car. The journey has been marked by both challenges and impressive problem-solving.

Despite unforeseen obstacles—often appearing at the last minute, true to Murphy's Law—the project stands as a success story of perseverance, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration among the student team at NTNU in Trondheim. As a proud sponsor and supplier of the battery modules implemented in the car, Freber was present at the unveiling on April 29th.
"Things take time, but we’ve consistently managed to turn challenges into solutions," says Sivert Sande Kverme, Co-founder and Team Lead.
Among the technical challenges, the battery pack was particularly demanding. Finding a safe and compact way to secure the batteries, while minimizing vibrations at high speeds, was no easy task. The placement of components in the car also required careful planning to ensure both efficiency and safety.
"One of the car’s major strengths is its modular system. This allows components to be swapped out during operation, which improves maintenance and makes it easier to adjust the design as needed during testing and competition," says Kristian Sæberg, Group Leader Electrical.
The project is a textbook example of how interdisciplinary knowledge, creativity, and collaboration can contribute to sustainable technological development—and perhaps one day revolutionize solar racing.
